ALLISON McCAFFREY FOR VICE PRESIDENT - ATA PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
First off I am a proud mother to two incredible humans. They bring me joy and happiness every day and it is for them, and their future families that I advocate so fiercely for a better Alberta.
After a career in the corporate world as a bookkeeper/accountant in both large conglomerates (Procter and Gamble, Inc.) and smaller independent entrepreneurs in Canada, the United States, and internationally (Amsterdam), I settled in Calgary and went back to school for my teaching degree. 20 years later, I am still awestruck and appreciative of where this choice has taken me.
My career in education has been varied and has included Division I, II and III homeroom classrooms, special education, and Administration.
My prior work in the private sector gives me a balanced perspective that helps to inform my advocacy work and my years in education have spotlighted the importance of refusing to allow government to erode public services including education and healthcare.
For the past 4 years it has been my honour and privilege to be the President of Calgary Catholic. Along with my incredible Executive, we have worked tirelessly to engage our members, provide educational opportunities so they know how their Local and the province can support them, and have celebrated successes. My favourite part of my current job is being able to interact with the teachers I serve. The stories we share continue to inspire me and renew my hope for the future of education in Alberta.
I'm learning to manage better my work-life turbulence, and at every opportunity I love to explore the world - whether that be in my own back yard or internationally.
